Getting a taxi in Gràcia

A village that the city grew around, uphill from the Eixample and with the streets to prove it.

Gràcia’s squares — Vila de Gràcia, del Sol, de la Virreina — are pedestrian, and the streets between them are narrow and often one-way. The reliable edges are Gran de Gràcia, Travessera de Gràcia and Carrer de Còrsega, all of which a taxi can stop on.

Park Güell deserves its own warning. The main entrance on Carrer d’Olot is at the bottom of a genuinely steep hill, and the drop-off area fills with coaches from mid-morning. Coming down, the best pick-up is Carretera del Carmel above the park rather than the entrance itself.

From here the airport is around 17 km, a little further than the centre, and the run out uses the Ronda de Dalt rather than crossing the middle of the city. That usually makes it quicker than the map suggests, particularly at rush hour.

Questions and answers

Where is the best taxi pick-up point for Park Güell?

Coming down, Carretera del Carmel above the park beats the main entrance, which fills with coaches from mid-morning. The Carrer d'Olot entrance sits at the bottom of a steep hill, so going up it is worth being dropped as close as the traffic allows.

Can a taxi get into Gràcia's squares?

The squares themselves — Vila de Gràcia, del Sol, de la Virreina — are pedestrian. The reliable edges are Gran de Gràcia, Travessera de Gràcia and Carrer de Còrsega, all of which a car can stop on.

Is Gràcia further from the airport than the centre?

Slightly, at roughly 17 km, but the run out uses the Ronda de Dalt instead of crossing the middle of the city. At rush hour that often makes it quicker than the extra distance suggests.
