Getting a taxi in Gothic Quarter

The oldest part of the city, and the one where the pick-up point matters more than the price.

Most of the Gothic Quarter is pedestrianised or too narrow for a car, so a taxi cannot reach the majority of its addresses. This is not a problem as long as we agree a meeting point in advance instead of discovering it with your suitcase at midnight.

The points that reliably work are Plaça de la Catedral’s Via Laietana side, Plaça Antonio López by the post office, Passeig de Colom along the waterfront, and the top of La Rambla at Plaça de Catalunya. For the Born, Passeig del Born itself is pedestrian but Carrer de la Princesa is not.

Tell me your hotel name when you book and I will name the nearest corner a car can legally stop at, usually under a three-minute walk. Wheeled suitcases on medieval paving are loud at night, so the shorter that walk the better for everyone.

Questions and answers

Can a taxi reach my hotel in the Gothic Quarter?

Often not to the door. Most of the quarter is pedestrianised or too narrow for a car. Send me your hotel name when you book and I will name the nearest corner a car can legally stop at, usually under a three-minute walk.

Which pick-up points actually work in the Gothic Quarter?

The Via Laietana side of Plaça de la Catedral, Plaça Antonio López by the post office, Passeig de Colom along the waterfront, and the top of La Rambla at Plaça de Catalunya. For the Born, Carrer de la Princesa rather than Passeig del Born.

Is it far from the Gothic Quarter to the cruise terminals?

No — it is one of the shortest runs in the city, well under 4 km to Moll Adossat. Because the distance is so small, a flat “port to city” price overcharges badly here and a real-distance quote is noticeably cheaper.
